This is my initial post on this blog. I have never done anything like blogging, so this will be a new adventure. I hope you join me on this adventure as we see where it takes us.
When thinking about online collaboration experiences and how they are measured, one thing popped into my mind. FEMA has an extensive online course catalog, and with every course, there is an evaluation at the end. FEMA has amassed enormous amounts of data about its courses and their performance. These courses are not just for government people but also for first responders, community members, and combinations of all walks of life. I found this to be an interesting title because, until recently, the American Heart Association's instructor website was known as the Instructor Network. When Google is used, the original site still pops up, but you are redirected to their "new" site, but the content is very similar. It is an online network where instructors can communicate in forums, ask questions, give advice, and drop not-so-subtle hints to the AHA to help make training better for the students. Some of the readings this week gave me pause. It can be easy to forget that we constantly leave our digital fingerprints. The information that can be gathered about us when taking online courses, such as MOOCs, is rather amazing and, frankly, a little scary. Be mindful of what digital trail you are leaving....
